Surcharges
Fuel Methodology
UPS Air Cargo utilizes a kerosene type Fuel Price Index (FPI) reported on the US Department of Energy’s website to calculate fuel surcharges. The surcharge will increase or decrease when the FPI passes trigger points for two consecutive weeks.

U.S. Export Screening Surcharge
All U.S. export cargo shipments must be screened for UPS flights bound for international destinations. Customers can choose to tender cargo to UPS Air Cargo pre-screened, under the TSA chain of custody requirements. If customers choose to tender cargo unscreened, there will be a surcharge of $0.12/kg on chargeable weight, with a minimum of $10.00.
U.S. Market Demand Surcharge
As a result of increasing operational costs, UPS Air Cargo will begin assessing a “Market Demand” surcharge for all U.S. origin shipments (excluding MIA), which will be applicable to all domestic and international destinations. The Market Demand surcharge of $0.12/kg (MM $10.00), for U.S. origin to international destinations, and $0.06/lb (MM $10.00), for U.S. domestic shipments, based on the chargeable shipment weight. This surcharge is applicable to all Reserved and Priority Air Cargo shipments, (Loose or Prebuilt Units). The code issued on billing invoices for this surcharge will be indicated as a “Capacity Surcharge.”
